Massenet’s Manon at Peterborough Players
New Production from The Met: Live in HD
Peterborough, NH (March 14, 2012) – The Met: Live in HD’s new production of Manon, by Jules Massenet, will be broadcast live onto the Peterborough Players’ big screen on Saturday, April 7 at 12:00 pm. This visually lush production is sung in French; English subtitles are streamed at the bottom of the screen. Manon is the second to last opera in the 2011/12 series. Anna Netrebko’s dazzling portrayal of the tragic heroine in Laurent Pelly’s new production travels to New York City’s Metropolitan Opera from London’s Royal Opera House, Covent Garden. Piotr Beczala and Paulo Szot also star, with the Met’s Principal Guest Conductor Fabio Luisi on the podium. Set at the end of the 19th century in France, Manon is a production rich in exquisite costuming and striking sets, inspired by the beginnings of impressionism.
The approximate running time of Manon is 3 hours, 40 minutes with two intermissions; casting subject to change without notice.
