The Met: Live in HD Gives Opera a Boost!

Aida Selling Fast
Opera fans - and those just dipping their toes in operatic water - loved Tosca, the first opera in The Met: Live in HD series at the Peterborough Players. Aida, by Giuseppe Verdi, will be shown Saturday, Oct. 24th, and is rapidly outpacing ticket sales for Tosca.

It seems like The Met: Live in HD series is on its way to helping to forge a solid base of opera buffs in the heart of the Monadnock region, and to keeping opera fans entertained.

"But aren’t operas usually sung in a foreign language? What if I don’t know speak the language?" people ask. The simulcast performances feature subtitles shown at the bottom of the 10’ X 16’ state-of-the-art screen at the Players, so opera newbies and aficionados alike know exactly what is going on onstage.

Aida promises to be a visual delight with spectacular costumes and scenery. Violeta Urmana stars in the title role of the enslaved Ethiopian princess, with Dolora Zajick as her rival. Johan Botha plays Radamès, commander of the Egyptian army, and Daniele Gatti conducts. Among the score’s highlights is the celebrated Triumphal March.

Aida, Sat., Oct. 24 at 1:00 p.m. Tickets $25 adults, $20 students, Box Office: (603) 924-7585 or online.
